On Tuesday 17 May, a Christian ice-cream vendor in Kot Imam Din, a village in the Kasur District of Pakistan’s Punjab province, was verbally abused and assaulted by local Muslims for selling ice-cream to Muslim women and children.

Rising persecution in Punjab, India, alarms Christian community
On Wednesday 25 May, in the city of Jalandhar in India’s Punjab state, a Christian was severely beaten by eight Hindu extremists after he protested against Hindu desecration of a Christian graveyard. Even though a complaint was registered with the police on the day of incident, a First Information Report (FIR) was not registered Monday 13 June.

Nigerian Christian man stabbed for not keeping Ramadan fast
Francis Emmanuel Olopko, a 41 year old Christian man, was reportedly stabbed on 7 June 2016, in the Kaduna state of Nigeria, by around six Muslim young men who were angry that he was not observing a Ramadan fast. Devout Muslims fast during the daytime throughout the month-long duration of Ramadan.

Christians in Nepal arrested on conversion charges
On Thursday 9 June, seven Christians from Nepal’s Dolakha district, including two school head teachers, were arrested for their involvement in the distribution of Christian literature to children at two schools with an intention to convert them. The arrests were made after complaints by parents and local politicians.

Indian fact-finding team uncover abuses meted out to Christian communities across Bastar region
A fact-finding mission to the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh between 8 – 11 June, undertaken by a team of eight representatives of the All India People’s Forum (AIPF), has catalogued a series of anti-Christian abuses including hate crimes, discrimination and violations of religious freedoms. In certain instances, this is directed at making living conditions for Christians in the villages concerned intolerable.

Nigerian pastor’s elderly wife murdered over “blasphemy” claims; concern over increasing attacks on Christians in Nigeria
Bridget Agbahime, a 74 year old market trader and wife of Pastor Mike Agbahime, was murdered on 2 June 2016 by an angry mob in Kano state, north-west Nigeria. Five Muslim men were arrested and charged over the brutal attack, though according to witnesses four others remain at large.
